GHC’s great uncle carves Shamrock which inspires the young Cuthbertson to be a yacht designer in 1898 which is given to George’s Dad who passes away, so the family moves to Toronto where George attends Royal Canadian Yacht Club because his mom won’t let him work at J.J. Taylors Boat works, instead making him garden for a summer at Parkside cemetery, where he now resides, while there, at R.C.Y.C., not the cemetery, he meets Norm Walsh sailing into the lagoon on Evangeline with Perry Connolly, Norm who restores the 8 Meter Venture with George’s new rig after having sent GHC and Peter Davidson to Europe to find the fastest 8 Meter but instead GHC finds Mir, that Mr. Greb gets GHC to sail transatlantic, and who owns Metro Marine that will later hire Erich Bruckmann, which ( Venture )goes on to win the Canada’s Cup encouraging Norm to ask GHC to design Inishfree that Dick Telford supervises the construction of at Richardson’s Boatworks that had done a number of CN35s, while chaperoning Helen Donaldson, the future Mrs. Cuthbertson after Dick having given young George his first job at Sachua’s Boat Yard and later overseeing GHC designs being built by Metro Marine supervised by Erich, this initial sighting of Perry sailing with Norm Walsh on Evangeline at the RCYC leads to Perry owning a CN 35 Carousel, who made his money building Holiday Inns in Southern Ontario, that GHC had been importing( The CN 35’s, Perry was Canadian born ) from Europe where he had met the builder Beister-Werft, who went on to build the CN 35s and Galatea, with Peter who’s sister Perry had married and him, Perry getting the racing bug, after having built a number of Holiday Inn Hotels in Ontario with his construction company, and later General Manager at the C&C plant in Rhode Island, and time at Boston Whaler, Irwin Yachts and Hinterhoeller before he ran the 12 meter syndicate Canada II, on a side note causing me to drop out of high school and become a shipwright and shakedown crew with Perry and Canada II, not sure if GHC was pleased with Perry’s request for me to join him in Victoria B.C., but this was all after he asked George to design the meanest hungriest 40’ around that subsequently Erich built at his shop after he left Metro Marine the racing yacht to be known as …
