1943 – 1945 Class of 46 UTS
We go to high school and we make friends, some for a short time, and some for a lifetime. George H. Cuthbertson attended the University of Toronto School for his final two years of high school. It was a short streetcar ride across Bloor Street for him in Toronto.
Those people you meet sometimes also do great things in life. I’m sure some look at G.H.C. with wonderment of what he achieved. But his year was special, from his class Canada received 5 gentleman to be inducted in to the Order of Canada. George’s friends tried twice to have the Government of Canada recognize his achievement but to not. He was recognized in 2012 with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
One of those gentlemen that Father went to school with and awarded the Order of Canada was Fraser Mustard. A Doctor and researcher in early childhood development. The others were John Evans, Fraser Fell, Ralph Barford and Charles Catto. Mr. Catto was a minister and founded Frontiers Foundation to promote advancement of economically and socially disadvantaged communities.
I know it was just a chance interaction, those many years ago in High School, but that U.T.S graduating class of 1946 had some special gentleman.
